Trek Overview

Everything you need to know

The Phulara Ridge Trek is one of the most unique and offbeat treks in the Indian Himalayas, offering a rare opportunity to walk along a continuous mountain ridge with panoramic views on both sides. Located in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarakhand, this trek is a hidden gem that combines scenic beauty, solitude, and a truly immersive Himalayan experience.

Unlike most treks where ridge sections are short-lived, Phulara Ridge offers an extended ridge walk that stretches for several kilometers—making it one of the few treks in India where you can experience this feature for an entire day. The trail takes you through dense forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron, charming Himalayan villages, and expansive alpine meadows.

This trek is ideal for beginners and intermediate trekkers looking for a peaceful alternative to crowded trails like Kedarkantha. The highlight is the ridge walk itself, where you are surrounded by breathtaking 360-degree views of snow-capped peaks such as Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak.

If you’re someone who enjoys long scenic walks, quiet trails, and stunning landscapes without heavy crowds, the Phulara Ridge Trek is an experience you shouldn’t miss.

Detailed Itinerary

Day-by-day breakdown

Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri (Drive)

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to Sankri, a picturesque village that serves as the base camp for many treks in the region. The route passes through Mussoorie, Purola, and Mori, offering mesmerizing views of rivers, valleys, and mountains. Upon arrival, check into your guesthouse and relax.

Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab

Start your trek through dense forests of pine and oak. The trail gradually ascends, making it ideal for acclimatization. As you gain altitude, the forest opens up to reveal beautiful clearings.

Juda Ka Talab is a serene high-altitude lake surrounded by trees. During winters, it freezes completely, creating a magical campsite. Spend the night here under a sky full of stars.

Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Bhoj Gadi

Today’s trek takes you deeper into the forest. The trail is relatively moderate, passing through dense vegetation and occasional open patches offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Bhoj Gadi campsite is located in a peaceful clearing surrounded by trees. This is a quiet and less crowded campsite, perfect for relaxing and preparing for the ridge walk ahead.

Day 4: Bhoj Gadi to Phulara Ridge & Descend to Pushtara

This is the most exciting and unique day of the trek.

After a gradual climb, you reach the Phulara Ridge, where the landscape transforms dramatically. Unlike narrow ridges, this one is wide and walkable, allowing you to comfortably enjoy the views.

You’ll walk along the ridge for several kilometers, with breathtaking views on both sides. Snow-capped peaks stretch across the horizon, and the sense of walking “on top of the world” is truly surreal.

After completing the ridge walk, descend towards Pushtara campsite, a beautiful meadow surrounded by mountains.

Day 5: Pushtara to Taluka & Drive to Sankri

Begin your descent through forests and scenic trails towards Taluka village. From here, drive back to Sankri. Relax and celebrate the successful completion of your trek.

Day 6: Sankri to Dehradun

Drive back to Dehradun, marking the end of your Himalayan adventure.
